Stock RSC Boxes

RSC (Regular Slotted Container) boxes are the industry standard for shipping and storage. Designed for strength, efficiency, and easy assembly, these boxes use minimal material while providing reliable protection. Available in a wide variety of stock sizes, they offer a practical and cost-effective solution for packaging products of all types.

Bursting “Mullen” Test vs. ECT (Edge Crush Test)

Corrugated boxes are commonly rated using one of two strength tests: Mullen Test or ECT (Edge Crush Test). Both measure the strength of corrugated board, but they evaluate different types of performance.

Mullen Test measures the bursting strength of corrugated board. This test determines how much pressure the board can withstand before it ruptures. Mullen-rated boxes are often preferred when packages may experience rough handling or puncture pressure, such as products with sharp edges or heavy items that could burst through the box.

ECT (Edge Crush Test) measures the stacking strength of corrugated board. It evaluates how much vertical pressure a box can withstand before the edges begin to crush. Because most boxes in shipping and warehousing are stacked on pallets, ECT ratings are widely used today to ensure boxes can support weight during storage and transportation.

While Mullen test ratings were the traditional standard for many years, ECT-rated boxes have become more common in modern shipping environments because they are designed to maximize stacking strength while using less material, often making them a more efficient and cost-effective option.

Choosing the right board strength depends on how the product will be packaged, handled, and shipped.

Corrugated Board Strength Comparison

Quick note:
Single wall boxes are the most common for general shipping. Double wall boxes provide additional stacking strength and durability and are typically used for heavier products, palletized shipments, or items requiring extra protection.
